LIAISON Stem Cell Banking offers a brand new possibility...
Sample enhancement by rinsing the placental blood vessels for additional hematopoietic stem cells
With over 10.000 transplantations taking place worldwide, cord blood is considered one of the most important sources for stem cells. High quality and content of stem cells in cord blood units strongly affect the outcome of transplantational procedures.
LIAISON immediately informs parents of the realistic potential of their cord blood units and never hesitates to prevent the cryopreservation of low quality samples. Our continuous pursuit of developing ways for better sample handling, lead us to a new protocol for placenta rinsing based on international scientific announcements according to which:
- The overall higher number of Hematopoietic stem cells reduces the possibility of sample rejection
- The final stem cell concentration is significantly higher compared to a normal cord blood unit
The placenta, in our sterilized kit, reaches the lab where a 2nd fraction collection takes place by thoroughly rinsing the placental blood vessels. The additional stem cells collected are then cryopreserved separately in a new cryobag and metallic canister, thus constituting a second additional sample.
