Cryopreservation of Dental Pulp Stem Cells

Liaison Stem Cell Banking, a pioneer in the field of stem cells in Greece, continues its development by providing a new service for both children and adults; the cryopreservation of mesenchymal stem cells from an alternative source, the dental pulp.

Stem cells in dental pulp of teeth have been found both in the deciduous teeth of children and the wisdom teeth in adults. In the first scientific reports in 2000 stem – mesenchymal cells have been isolated from the dental pulp in adult wisdom teeth (third molars). Since then, extensive research has been conducted both in adult and children teeth, showing not only the existence of stem cells in the dental pulp but also the remarkable ability, to differentiate in several tissue such as nerve, muscle, bone and other.

In 2005 scientists of the American Dentistry Organisation, working for the National Health Foundation, refer to stem cells in dental pulp of the teeth by pointing out their distinctive properties and their ability, if isolated and stored, to be used in the future to treat many diseases.

These special properties that are presented by the dental pulp stem cells, the easy way of collecting, in conjunction with the low cost offered by LIAISON Stem Cell Banking renders this cryopreservation process one of the greatest gifts for the whole family.
